STPH Announces
New Ambulatory Surgery Center
Covington, LA – STPH will open a new state-of-the-art ambulatory surgery center in midyear 2010. The 20,000 square-foot center atop the hospital’s medical office building will house four surgical suites; nearly triple STPH’s existing capacity at the current Covington Surgery Center.
“Having larger operating and special procedures rooms provide enough space for even the most involved orthopedic and reconstructive procedures,” Sharon Toups, STPH VP and COO said. “This gives doctors the space, technology and access to high quality equipment and staff they need to provide the best care to their patients.”
The new Covington Surgery Center will occupy the top floor of the three-story building currently under construction across Tyler Street from the hospital’s main campus. On target for substantial completion by yearend 2009, the building will connect to the hospital via elevated, climate-controlled sky bridge, estimated to be completed in late 2010.
The new surgery center’s additional capacity will make scheduling outpatient surgeries more convenient for patients and doctors. Adding more and larger surgical suites will enable doctors to perform a greater variety of surgical procedures than previously possible such as complicated orthopedic surgeries and delicate facial and nasal procedures.
“Locating our outpatient surgical facility close the main hospital makes it convenient for patients and doctors,” Kerry Milton, STPH VP and chief nursing officer said. “This project is all about what is best and most convenient for our patients- easier scheduling, a greater variety of procedures and convenient and easy access to the hospital.”
The new Covington Surgery Center is part of STPH’s strategic plan for growth announced in 2006 to expand the provision of technology and services for patients on the Northshore.
