Services & Programs

The Parenting Center is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for parents, grandparents or caregivers, and the children they care for to enjoy our playroom and outdoor play area.  Whether you choose to stay 10 minutes or four hours, it is a great place for children to play and develop social skills.  And for you to socialize with others, including our professional staff, to discuss how to handle everyday challenges or share your everyday joys of parenting.

There are two options to utilize our The Parenting Center play areas.  There is a yearly membership that also includes our interactive classes and special events and activities for $125 for the year.  Or we offer “Pay to Play” to our non-members for $5/per child/per day to play.

A program designed as a "social playtime” for babies, as well as a learning and support opportunity for their parents, grandparents or caregivers. Join us for songs, stories and playtime. This class is held on three Thursday mornings each month from 10:30-11 a.m.


This educational program is designed for parents, grandparents or caregivers and their children to have fun and learn together! A variety of interesting topics will be presented through music and movement, hands-on exploration, arts and crafts, and story time.  Each month there is a new theme. The movement segment, “fun and fit,” in conjunction with the 5210 Health Initiative, encourages everyone to get up and move! We are all just a hop, skip and a jump away from better health. This class is held on three Tuesday and Wednesday mornings each month from 10:30-11:15 a.m.


These are monthly special events with varying themes and activities, such as Fun in the Sun, Water and Sand play day and Kids in the Kitchen. They are held at the Parenting Center and at locations throughout the community.


Children celebrating birthday’s this month are invited to join us at the Parenting Center. Enjoy cupcakes, and Chick-fil-A’s famous chicken nuggets donated by Chick fil-A along with a Chick-fil-A fruit tray.  Birthday parties are held the first Wednesday of each month 11:30 a.m. to noon.



The Parenting Center of St. Tammany Health Systems offers a variety of classes with topics that change monthly. We will also hit the road with a program tailored to fit your needs!  Our classes may be presented at a local business, school, place of worship or other organization. We offer a variety of one-time classes or a series of programs for working parents, as well as specific teacher training on various popular topics such as a certified CPR class. This course is designed to aid parents in becoming active parents in their child’s life using active communication. This class encourages parents to build on their child’s strengths, avoid power struggles and learn effective discipline skills. Parents role play, complete assignments as a group and learn skills to achieve a fuller, more satisfying family life. A certificate of 8 hours of attendance along with snacks is provided. Partial scholarship are available as needed. Space is limited.  This course offered quarterly.  (Price includes class book & workbook)  COST: $80/per person

BALLET (ages 2 -5 )
Christina Connell, Owner of the Conservatory of Ballet Aviv teaches this exciting and educational Ballet class will be filled with a combination of the best practices of Ballet techniques along with rhythmic movement to help with the development of understanding Ballet. Our little ballerinas will gain motor, cognitive, and social skills that will be beneficial for life. Come experience a fun and great time of dance! This program is held on three Wednesday's each month from 9:30-10:15 a.m. COST (per month): $30 per child

CHOP ~ Cooking Healthy Options and Portions (ages 12 to 16)
The Parenting Center is proud to offer this popular and educational class! Teens who participate will learn valuable cooking skills, knife skills and safety, food safety, proper measuring and calculations, meal planning, boiling, simmering, sautéing and baking. Teens will also learn useful nutritional information such as the importance of consuming enough fruits and vegetables, how to lower intakes of fat, sugar and sodium, and proper portion control! Everything will be hands on from chopping to cooking.  This course offered quarterly.

KARATE (ages 3 -5 ) ~ JFK Martial Arts
Our karate class educates students on both the mental and physical aspects necessary to stay healthy. Our future black belts will learn skills such as discipline, respect, social skills, and confidence to stand up to peer pressure and other mental challenges thrust upon them in today’s fast paced society. JFK Martial Arts has been serving the community for 22 years and we are proud to have them here at The Parenting Center! Is your child safe in his/her car seat?  As a fitting station, the Parenting Center's Child Passenger Safety technicians teach parents and caregivers how to safely transport children by using the appropriate child safety seat or safety belt correctly. To make an appointment to have a child safety seat inspected, please call the Parenting Center at (985) 898-4435. Inspections are also at Troop L from 3-6 p.m. every Tuesday. INFANT/CHILD CPR (A Friends & Family CPR Course)

Come out and join the Parenting Center’s BLS instructors as they do hands-on CPR training. You will gain valuable knowledge and skills needed for choking and breathing emergencies that may arise with your child, family member or anyone in your presence. FYI- This is not a CPR certified class; however, the skills and knowledge that you gain can save lives. COST: $30/per person. 


This two-day program offers CPR, choking rescue, injury management, safety for the sitter, babysitting as a business, child care basics and more for boys and girls ages 11 and older. The class is offered five times a year: first during the Easter break, three times during the summer and again during the Thanksgiving break.



Calling all new dads! Are you familiar with car seats, coping with a crying infant and postpartum depression, or shaken baby syndrome? If not, don't worry. Join veteran dads for our Boot Camp for New Dads - the only one in Louisiana - every other month to learn how to care for your new baby - and new mom. COST:  $15/per dad and includes "Crash Course for Dads to Be" book.  Click here for more information.


This fun and interactive class is all about the Big Brother and Big Sister! We will cater to the soon to be siblings of a newborn brother or sister! We will work with the sibling in helping them understand the changes that occur when mom and dad bring home a new baby. The sibling will learn safe and proper ways to handle newborns by using our life-like dolls. We will change diapers, swaddle and watch a very entertaining educational video while eating cookies. After class, we will take a tour of New Family Center where Labor and Delivery occur in the hospital. A parent must be present. Cookies will be served. COST: $10/per family.


This program is for breastfeeding moms or expectant mothers who want to learn about breastfeeding. The primary goal of La Leche League is mother to mother support. Meetings are held the first Friday of each month from 10- 11 a.m. at the Parenting Center and is free to attend. 


The joy of being new parents or starting over can bring on some snugs and tugs! Our friendly and inviting chat will include topics dealing with parenting of an infant child. You can expect scheduled guest expert speakers, along with parent to parent support, some giveaways and much more. From organic eating to nap times, much has changed since being parents of young babies and toddlers. Grandparents of our little members, come in and enjoy a cup of coffee while talking with fellow grandparents on some of the hurdles with grand parenting the new aged grand-babies.  Held monthly; see calendar of events for dates.  FREE
