Quality

St. Tammany Parish Hospital Laboratory is a state-of-the-art laboratory that performs approximately 3 million tests per year and is continually focused on enhancing our lab services to better care for our patients. Our antibiotic stewardship program spearheaded the implementation of new microbiology and chemistry testing that enable your physician to diagnose sepsis, a bloodstream infection, accurately and quickly. The Accelerate instrument can quickly identify what organism is causing an infection and what drug will be most effective to treat it. In chemistry, the procalcitonin test, a biomarker for sepsis, can help identify true cases of sepsis from other diagnoses.  Please visit the link below to hear from our antibiotic stewardship team, and see the teamwork of St. Tammany Parish Hospital in action.
