Building for the Future

St. Tammany Parish Hospital has long-term plans to grow with the health care needs of the residents of west St. Tammany and surrounding areas. The need for emergency care on the Northshore is on the rise in direct relationship to the census.

A glance at Northshore population growth is most telling. In recognition of this, coupled with the hospital’s mission to address the health care needs of west St. Tammany and surrounding areas, STPH is embarking on an expansion within the next two-and-a-half years that will increase private rooms and emergency capacity while also introducing specialized areas of emergency care most needed in our community.

EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

  • Currently has 14 beds for emergency services and six for minor care
  • Expansion plan will deliver 30 total emergency services beds
  • Expanded footprint for the emergency wing of the building
  • Specialized care settings built into the Emergency Department to accommodate pediatric emergencies, geriatric emergencies and mental health emergencies
  • Attract subspecialty physicians to elevate the level of specialized care available to these populations

PRIVATE ROOMS (3 North)

  • 3 North will be a new all-private-room unit, based upon the principles of the Healing Arts and Evidence Based Design, much like the 4 South unit opened in April 2008
  • 21 private rooms
  • Expansion of Emergency Services on first floor will remove 11 beds, making the net gain on the hospital’s license 10 beds, meaning the hospital will have 232 licensed beds
