St. Tammany Health System emergency departments provide emergency care for all patients without discrimination. Both locations are connected to Ochsner vascular neurologists via Telestroke. STHS is Covington's accredited chest pain center and a level 3 trauma center; it has earned Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval® and American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's Heart-Check mark for Advanced Certification for Primary Stoke Centers.
With good teamwork, both STHS emergency departments strive to treat every patient according to each individual’s emergency need in a timely manner. All patients requesting examination and/or treatment will receive an appropriate medical screening exam by a physician to determine if an emergency medical condition exists. Patients should seek primary or urgent care for non-emergency healthcare and seek emergency care when experiencing severe issues beyond the scope of urgent or primary care offices.
St. Tammany Health System adjusts its system in the Emergency Department to consistently reduce wait times. In fact, the ER routinely benchmarks below the national average. Check wait times here.
Pediatric Emergency Department
St. Tammany Health System is proud to offer our youngest patients access to a pediatric specific emergency department. From the child-friendly waiting area to the dedicated physicians and nursing staff, child-size treatment rooms, equipment and nurses' station, our pediatric emergency department is here to provide world-class care for your family.
Mandeville Emergency Department
The facility at 2929 Hwy. 190, Mandeville provides residents with closer access to emergency care and quicker integration into St. Tammany Health System Systems. This location is a full-service emergency facility able to treat emergent health situations including heart attack and stroke. It has onsite diagnostics and access to specialists including Ochsner vascular neurologists via TeleStroke. STHS employees staff the Mandeville Emergency Department, and the emergency medicine specialists providing physician services onsite are the same board-certified physicians serving in the STHS main campus emergency department.
