Mission / Goals / Objectives 2010
The mission of The STPH Parenting Center is: To promote confidence and competence in parenting, encourage optimal child development and to enhance the well-being of the family as a whole.
As a department of St. Tammany Parish Hospital, the Center is dedicated to meeting the needs of children and parents. The purpose of this program is to provide a center where parents, through the help of professionally trained staff, can develop parenting skills, thereby maximizing their child’s intellectual, physical, social, emotional, and educational development.
The Center provides on-going education and also works to prevent child abuse through outreach programs. A sampling of education classes include: Active Parenting of Step-Families; Nice Parents Get Angry; Managing the Behavior of the Noncompliant / Explosive Child; Food Facts for Kids; Teens & Boundaries; Sex, Drugs & Rock-N-Roll; Talking About Sexuality with your Pre-Schooler; Sibling Rivalry; Dealing with Difficult People; Study Skills; New Baby Support Group, Mom to Mom Program; Your Baby Can Sign; Brain Development Infant / Child CPR. Most programs are free or have a nominal fee.
