Phase I
The first phase of St. Tammany Parish Hospital Cardiac Rehab is inpatient, providing education and progressive activity for patients with heart events, procedures or disease.
Phase II
The second phase is an outpatient program for those with stable angina or for patients one to three weeks after cardiac events such as heart attack, coronary artery bypass surgery. Patients wear heart monitors during exercise, and we evaluate their blood pressure. Phase II typically lasts three sessions per week for 12 weeks. Phase II requires a physician’s order and may be covered by insurance. You should confirm coverage with your own plan.
Phase III
The third phase is a maintenance program for those who have just completed a Phase II program or have two risk factors for heart disease such as smoking, diabetes, obesity, hypertension or high cholesterol that need additional cardiac rehab supervision. Phase III requires a physician’s order and is self-pay.
Phase IV
The final phase is a fitness program for graduates of phases II or III. Participates are considered low risk for problems during exercise. Phase IV requires a physician’s order and is self-pay.
Education
Cardiac Rehab hosts classes every Friday on topics including heart safety, medications, risk factors for heart disease and benefits of exercise, nutrition, weight management and stress management.
