This program provides an opportunity for college students to observe or shadow a healthcare employee in order to develop a broader understanding of their intended field of study. Participants must be at least 18 years of age to participate in the Shadowing program.
The purpose of the Collegiate Shadowing Program is to ensure that the Shadowing Program provides the best learning opportunity for the individual seeking a medical/healthcare career path. The Shadowing Program provides:
- Opportunities to observe healthcare in practice.
- Exposure to various healthcare career options.
- Information about the requirements to enter various healthcare careers.
- Positive role models.
The Shadowing Program is open to persons who are actively enrolling in a 4-year healthcare degree program that requires hours of observation as a part of the application process. Observation areas include: Respiratory Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy, etc. (No observations with physicians or in surgical services). The participants must be committed to volunteering a minimum of 20 hours
Required Forms for Shadowing Program:
Orientation to the Hospital and the Program is scheduled for Tuesday, May 19th, 2019 from 8:00 am – 10:30 am in the Madisonville Room at St. Tammany Health System. The program runs from May 25, 2020 to June 26, 2020. Orientation includes explanation of policies and procedures of the hospital, explanation of the Program and work schedule, and a tour of the facility.
